Message from Ms. Carugno

Dear EHTHS Families,

Congratulations to Sibel Alabarda for earning a $500 scholarship from the New Jersey Schoolwoman’s Club. Sibel is a mature, well-rounded, and intelligent young woman who plans to enter the field of education, where she will undoubtedly make a difference in the lives of her future students.

We are also proud to recognize World Language teacher Sunny Harris for completing the Mark Cuban Foundation AI Teacher Fellowship Program. This rigorous 10-month program focused on ethical use, responsible integration, and meaningful classroom application. Sunny was selected from more than 500 applicants and we are proud of this incredible accomplishment.

Our Middle School French students visited the High School to practice their language skills through activities created by our upper-level French students. They toured the building, learned about opportunities such as CIEE Study Abroad and the Seal of Biliteracy and enjoyed French games including Pétanque and Loup-Garou.

Congratulations to Mr. Tinsley and our choir students, who took Illuminate on the road to Dorney Park and truly shined. Concert Choir, Vocal Ensemble, Chamber Choir, and aChoired Harmony all earned 1st Place ratings, Tonal Point earned 2nd Place, Vocal Ensemble received Best Overall Choir, and Abraham Michael was named Best High School Soloist for the second year in a row.

EHT was also in the State House! Students traveled to Trenton for a VIP tour of the New Jersey State House, where they visited the rotunda, Governor’s Office, Assembly and Senate chambers, and participated in a “make a law” session. This trip was free thanks to a grant earned by Mr. Martirone.

We also celebrated more than 250 seniors who were recognized for being amazing and making great decisions throughout their four years at EHTHS.

Congratulations to Kaci Velardi, who received the prestigious Old Grad Award, recognizing the top male and female athletes in Atlantic County. Kaci is a three-letter athlete in field hockey, swimming, and softball, and we are incredibly proud of her. For the second consecutive year, congratulations to Jackie Brownlee on being selected to the Girls Flag Football All-South Jersey Team. Way to go, Jackie!

Congratulations to Scarlett Butcher, one of only 34 girls nationwide invited to participate in U.S. Rowing’s Selection Development Program, a prestigious step for emerging rowers with national team potential. We also congratulate senior Sawyer Schmidt, who became only the third student-athlete in school history to join the 14-foot club. Sawyer will continue his career at Rowan next year. What an incredible accomplishment!

Prom and graduation are quickly approaching. Please be sure to review all important information, including Prom details, the Graduation FAQ, and the Graduation Website (linked).

Senior Chromebook collection will take place June 10, 11, and 12.

Have a great weekend!

CLIMATE AND CULTURE

May Staffulty of the Month

Congratulations to Kayla Moody for winning May's Staffulty of the Month!!

Kayla puts an incredible amount of time, effort, and dedication into her CP Physics classes. She consistently goes above and beyond for her students, and it is clear how much she cares through the strong rapport she has built with them throughout the year. Her classroom is engaging, welcoming, and filled with opportunities for students to learn physics in creative and meaningful ways.

One recent example of this was her roller coaster project, where students applied their knowledge of energy and motion to design and build working roller coasters with original creative themes. Students were able to utilize the scientific method, problem-solving skills, and collaboration to make their projects successful. The excitement and enthusiasm in the classroom were evident as students tested, redesigned, and improved their creations.

Kayla also went the extra mile by inviting other classes to come view and test the roller coasters. Both her students and the visiting students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. One student even commented, “I have never seen students have so much fun in a science class.” That statement is a true testament to Kayla’s hard work, creativity, and dedication to creating a positive and engaging learning environment where students genuinely enjoy learning.

Policy 5516- Remotely Activating Communication Devices and Electronic Devices

As we begin the new school year, we would like to take a moment to remind the school community of our district’s no cell phone policy during the school day. This decision was made with one clear purpose: to keep our students focused on learning, socializing face-to-face, and fully engaging in the classroom experience.

COMMUNITY PRIDE

Memorial Day Parade

Great turnout this morning at the Annual Memorial Day Parade as we came together to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country. We were proudly led by our Marching Band and AFJROTC, with EHT teachers and staff handing out beach balls along the parade route. Our football team also joined in the festivities, along with everyone’s favorite therapy dogs, Charlie and Marty.
